Tour Program:

Day 1: Departure
Day 2: Tbilisi
Arrive in Tbilisi previous evening or early in the morning. Transfer to the hotel and time for rest.   
Historic part of Tbilisi is located at the foot of Narikala Fortress. It charms visitors with its romantic, narrow streets, beautiful facades and picturesque sites next to each other, including Metekhi Church, Synagogue, Sioni Cathedral, Bridge of Peace, Anchiskhati Church and famous sulphur bathhouses. No less impressive is the new cathedral Sameba (Holy Trinity) and Father David monastery on a hill.  From the monastery you will enjoy beautiful view on the city. Visit the treasury of Georgian Art museum (Old icons and procession crosses). Dinner in a restaurant. Overnight in a hotel in Tbilisi.

Day 3: Tbilisi – David Gareja – Telavi (250 km)
A tour to David Gareja in south-eastern part of Georgia. It is a semi-desert due to the lack of vegetation.  It is inhabited with a big variety of rare species of birds. The Monastery, built in 6th century by Assyrian monk, David, is hidden behind the hills. You should take a walk on the slope of the hill to see the most beautiful part of the Complex and its wall paintings from 8-9th centuries. From the top one can see Azerbaijan border. Continue to drive to Telavi. En route visit farmer’s wine cellar and taste Georgian wine from clay jars, kept under the ground. Dinner and overnight in Telavi.

Day 4: Telavi – Alaverdi – Nekresi – Telavi (115 km)
Around Telavi there are a lot of historical sites, especially old monasteries and fortresses that are worth to see.  Among them is Ikalto monastery with academy, Alaverdi cathedral in Alazani valley and Gremi fortress (16 century), that served as a residence for Kings of Kakheti. Have a wine-tasting in Alaverdi monastery and visit Gremi-community. Meeting the volunteers involved in the social project. After lunch visit Nekresi complex, founded in 6th century. Drive back to Telavi. Dinner and overnight in Telavi.

Day 5: Telavi – Bodbe – Signagi – Tbilisi (180 km)
Drive and upon a wish short walking (1 hour) to the church of St. Nino in Bodbe. It holds the grave of St.Nino, who brought Christianity to Georgia. Next to it is situated a beautiful town of Signagi, with a picturesque view on Alazani Valley. It is surrounded by defensive wall built in 18th century. Sightseeing the town. Drive to Tbilisi. Dinner and overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 6: Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Tbilisi (75 km)
Drive to visit the old capital of Georgia - Mtskheta (UNESCO Word Heritage). Christianity in Georgia started from this town in 4th century. If you visit Jvari Monastery at the top of a high cliff, you can have a splendid panoramic view of how two rivers, Aragvi and Mtkvari join each other, as well as the great view on Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th century), spiritual centre of the country. Continue to drive to the cave monastery Shio-Mgvime, founded in 6th century. Drive back to Tbilisi. Upon a wish visit Catholic or Lutheran church. Dinner and overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 7: Tbilisi – Ateni – Kintsvisi – Kutaisi (290 km)
Drive to Western part of Georgia to the town of Kutaisi. On the way visit beautiful Ateni Sioni church, the cave town Uplistsikhe and the church in Kintsvisi, where beautiful sky-blue and green colors dominate in wall-paintings. There is one of the few portraits of Queen Tamara kept in this church. Meeting with a priest who will tell you about Georgian Orthodox church and priest’s life. Dinner and overnight in Kutaisi.

Day 8: Kutaisi – Gelati – Motsameta – Tbilisi (270 km)
Kutaisi is the second largest city of Georgia and fascinates guests with its rich history. Visit Gelati monastery with academy (12 c.) - UNESCO World heritage, and Bagrati cathedral (11 century), symbol of the unification of Georgia in 11th century. Drive to visit Motsameta church. A walk along the box-trees will bring you to the church on a cliff. Drive back to Tbilisi. Dinner in a restaurant with Georgian dances. Overnight in Tbilisi.
